The First Class cabin on Thai Airways' Boeing 747-400 has a nice private feel to it, with only 10 seats in the cabin. (In contrast British Airways currently seats 14 passengers in its First Class cabin on the 747). The seats in the cabin are fully flat pod-style seats and are extremely comfortable in both seat and flat-bed modes. Inflight service was 'Smooth as Silk' as promised although maybe not as polished as on Singapore Airlines, The cabin crew were extremely polite and friendly throughout but did not address me by name once during the flight - seems a bit pedantic I know, but I am always impressed by this little touch when flying Singapore Airlines. The meals were a little disappointing for First Class although I did have a nice duck curry for dinner. I stuck to drinking Dom Perignon 99 throughout the flight and Thai keeps a bottle on ice in the cabin so passengers can help themselves.
Thai Airways' First Class service really comes into its own on the ground at Bangkok Suvarnabhumi airport. I was met off the plane by a member of the ground crew who then drove me to the First Class lounge on an electric cart, as I was transiting Bangkok airport. The Royal First Lounge at Bangkok is very impressive - better even than Qatar Airways Premium Terminal at Doha in my opinion. There are nice private rooms to relax in (photo shown), sleeping areas, shower suites and a full service menu. The lounge staff were extremely attentive and were constantly offering to bring me food and drink. They also made me an appointment to visit the Royal Orchid Spa where I had a nice complimentary neck and shoulder massage. When the time came for me to board my connecting flight, I was personally escorted all the way to the aircraft.
All in all, Thai provides a nice service and given its competitive fares, I would certainly fly Thai Royal First Class again.
